had a refreshing dose of superb live music today, altho it was a very short dose, but still refreshing nonetheless. i caught the local blues band
UBlues who performed at the Esplanade Theater, as part of the theater's lunchbox concerts.
well it was kinda short partly cos i arrived late heh..i was supposed to meet quek at 1145 but i was alr running a little late and i still had to eat a sandwich if not my stomach wld be eating me out from the inside b4 we could have lunch. so i ended up meeting him at ard 1205? which is jus downstairs btw haha...so by the time we reached the concert hall it was like 105 and they were alr playing...altho i stubbornly kept telling quek, who was kinda hinting that we would reach there quite late, that they won't start on time. still, i guessed they were only on their second song at the most cos each song lasted ard 6 mins plus and they were supposed to start at 1245.
woah the acoustics in the concert hall is mind-blowing. it did wonders to Budak Pantai's sound the last time i went there, altho when i caught my jc's band concert there, the acoustics couldnt do much to help their sound heh. Ublues sounded real tight, with the singer's vocals cutting thru the band's sound loud and clear...haha anyway for one song he was singing "Lord have mercy on me..." over and over again, with some variations..but the idea was there hah. they had a guest guitarist from Italy who was really doing all the work and stealing the show from the singer cum guitarist. oh there was one part where they played each other's twangers..yeah that got everyone hot under the collar.
anyway, 3 songs later, they had to wrap things up. and of cos there was the mandatory guitar solo, keyboard solo, drum solo and bass...er oh ya there was a bassist...
as i was leaving, i walked past a group of secondary school kids still in their uniforms and without their bags, and i overheard one of them saying "back to school.." damn..if only my school days had lunchtime outings like this..instead of hanging at potong pasir's mcdonalds or AMK's KFC.
oh i got back my phone..called them up the other day and the woman cheerfully told me, "oh Mr Leeeem, ur phone is ledi for collection." oh wow arent i so lucky to guess correctly that my phone has been serviced alr. turns out that it jus needed a software upgrade but the lady told me they had to monitor it for 3 days. yeah thats like in total contradiction to wat the guy told me bout getting it 2 hrs after the upgrade.
whatever man.
i can speed-sms again...

finally downloaded
Pulp Fiction, which was a cool show with interesting dialogues and great acting from the 2 leads, john travolta and samuel l. jackson. here's one example. the extensive use of expletives gives the show a rougher edge and in fact i think that's the way these kinda characters talk in real life. (jules is Mr. Jackson and vincent is Mr. Travolta)
Jules Winnfield: Pigs are filthy animals. I don't eat filthy animals.
Vincent Vega: Yeah but bacon tastes good. Pork chops taste good.
Jules Winnfield: Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy mother-fu**ers. Pigs sleep and root in sh**. That's a filthy animal. I ain't eating nothing that ain't got sense enough to disregard his own feces.
Vincent Vega: How 'bout a dog? Dog eats his own feces.
Jules Winnfield: I don't eat dog either.
Vincent Vega: Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal?
Jules Winnfield: I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy, but they definitely dirty. But, dog's got personality; personality goes a long way.
Vincent Vega: Ahh, so by that rational, if a pig had a better personality, he would cease to be a filthy animal. Is that true?
Jules Winnfield: Well, we'd have to be talking one charming mother-fu**ing pig.
oh and the part where the cop sodomises the big boss is damn hilarious la..i mean im sure the boss didnt find it funny but then he was like all tied and gagged, and there was some cheesy surf music playing in the background. couldnt help but find it amusing..(not stimulating mind u).
sigh still waiting for the call from the service centre to get my phone back...really bad luck to get a brand new phone with a defect...

AAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH
y am i sooooo damn suay. i didn't msg zhengqian my new number and wat happens? he calls my old number at ard 6pm yesterday evening to tell me...tell me wat??
that he's got free tics ($150!!!!) to the LINKIN PARK concert
found this out from quek (who went....'ARGH' again), he was like "where were u yesterday man?? u missed the concert!!"
sorry...ARRRGGGGHHHH....i did not intend to go previously la cos the prices are not exactly cheap (nor worthy of linkin park...ok im sounding contradictory here but while im not a huge fan of theirs i still enjoy their music) but its free $150 tic leh!!
feel like whacking my head against the wall and tearing my hair out. woe is me...i wanted to msg him my number on sat la but i jus stopped at letter 'X' in my address book..dun ask me y i stopped..i was about to go out but i cld have continued msging rite? Y DIDNT I CONTINUE??
and where was i during the concert?? watching some bloody french arthouse film. trois couleurs - bleu...watever...if zhengqian had called me at ard 6pm i'd have told nat xinye they all screw the film im going to watch linkin park. 8 bucks in exchange for a $150 tic...
i didnt exactly comprehend the whole meaning of the film..u noe, since its some artsy film there were many symbolisms and scenes which on the surface jus seems illogical and out-of-place...there was the prostitute who never wears underwear, the kids in WHITE swimwear and RED floats jumping into the BLEU (pun intended) pool..how the hell am i to realise that it was refering to the colours of the french flag and that it symbolises liberation? like that a jack neo film with a scene showing a pool of RED blood beside a dead body wearing a WHITE shirt can refer to the singapore flag and symbolise independence la..
so the film wasnt that great to me and now that ive realised i missed a chance to get the free tics the film sucks big time man. really really sucks.
and its all my fault.
ahhhhhh....weeeeoooooeeeee....sorry, i was ALLUDING to Kung Pao (take that, damn french arthouse film, with all ur allusions and symbolisms).
one consolation i can get is that linkin park performed for a short while, like 1 hr? thats wat quek told me...but then again, 1 hr is all it takes for them to perform all their songs....and the sound system was good too...damn damn damn
oh the phone not only indirectly caused me to miss this golden opportunity, but it came with its own prob as well...it keeps rebooting whenever i try to access a certain menu...so i had to go down to novena sqaure area today to send it in for servicing. and the stupid counter guy was going "wah this is the first time ive seen such a problem..this has never happened b4" ya i feel so honoured to be the one to show u that this sony ericsson phone CAN have such a problem. jus take in the phone and service it for me la..as if u can find out the problem there..ur jus a counter staff, not the techie. anyways, he told me they'll upgrade the software and if it works they'll contact me within 2 hrs to come back to collect the phone, if not it'll take ard 3 working days. so i hung ard novena sq, then went to the gym in bishan, but they didnt call back...shucks...so now gotta put up with a sucky T65 phone for the next few days and its navigation and msging is damn slow...but mine's better tho haha..so no complaints there.
ah well...that was a long post..full of complains and generally jus feeling shitty. but hey it was fun to bitch haha...
ok im off to drown in my sorrows now by listening to linkin park...

u wanna noe wat's terrifying?
terrifying is when u switch on ur comp, open msn messenger, open internet explorer and then get an error msg from msn saying that u can't log on to the network, and having that damn 'can't find server' page appearing on internet explorer.
that's wat happened to me last nite. things were fine in the afternoon tho..dunno what happened...i was freaked out to say the least la...went to do all sorts of troubleshooting, tweaking with the internet options blahblah...even thot of uninstalling antivirus cos the error msg from msn said that i appeared to be behind some firewall and i thot the antivirus had downloaded and installed some new firewall by itself hah.
madness. the stuff i think about when i panic.
it was one of those things which i jus go to sleep with and hope that things will be fine the next day..and fortunately it has.
ahhh on to other stuff...i sort of have a wardrobe makeover with 3 new t-shirts haha..thanks to jo he boo who bought 2 cool tees from aussieland and sourcing out another one from 37 degrees..it has a cartoon drawing of a drumset! swweeeet. i saw a levi's one last time but it cost like 40 bucks..but the drums looked nicer on that one tho heh.
did i mention how hot the weather is lately? kinda reminds me of the period during the recent exams.

Look what i jus got today.

did my research and scouted ard for the best price for a few weeks and finally got it. but of cos when the registration fee, sim card and GST were added in, the price shot up by another 60 bucks...argh.. the backlight for the buttons is a cool blue which will sort of glow from behind each button, not those which has like 4 bulbs lighting up the centre of the keypad. the retro looking cover u see there is kinda growing on me, as compared to the metallic blue one which looks quite dull. i dun think this phone is that popular, as ive only seen 2 ppl so far carrying it..most prob cos its bulky...yeah thicker than the standard clamshell phones. i still see lotsa nokias ard..and panasonic's getting popular too. hope i can get used to the much talked about slower speed of messaging as compared to nokias cos i guess i type quite fast (some ppl think messaging with 2 thumbs is wierd).
now i wonder if pasar malams sell fake covers for this model haha..i remember checking them out for covers for my nokia....

i really can't get enuff of
The Calling. Listening to them day in day out. ive gotta go back on my word and say that all the songs in the album Two are great.
anyway, ive been eating quite abit of gelato suddenly heh. last wk and the past 2 days.
i ate fish & co. yesterday and the last time i ate there was like months ago...even a year maybe? had the corriander codfish which looked like swamp thing to me la...cos the sauce was all green and mushy...didnt really like it..shld have eaten the seafood platter haha..cant go wrong with breaded calamari and butter rice man..felt like it didnt do justice to my week long abstinence of good food due to my stomach acting up..but hey at least its ok now...
and after that i found myself sitting down in Buttercup Coffee once again. but to quote the Dude Where's My Car drive-thru voice, "NO MORE LAVENDER!!". this time i went for much nicer rum & raisin and tiramisu flavours, which incidentally was what i wanted to order the last time b4 the waitress had to give me another list of flavours and distract me with Lavender Honey. i dun understand y they have to do that..the list is the same accept for the lavender honey and i think some green tea flavour..can't they jus add in those into the menu??
oh i caught around the world in 80 days that day too. wasn't too bad, its jus an action comedy show with a couple of interesting cameos. if there's one thing from that show that will stick with u, its gotta be 'GAN BEI!!!" hah watch it and u'll know.
so anyway, back to the gelato-track, went all the way to guthrie house (somewhere near clementi)today to savour more gelato, with a few gelato-craving/deprived individuals. went to this place called venesia. nice place with good jazz oldies music heh..had belgian chocolate and lemon flavour and it was good shit man..
ok i'm talking bout food again. and y not? my stomach's back in action and it deserves to have good food.

any yahoo mail users out there? they've jus upgraded their services and now ive got 100MB of storage space yeahh babbyy, and a 10MB limit to outgoing email attachments. haha i dun send out many mails anyway, and hardly need to use 10MB. but still, yahoo mail rocks man. i used to be taking up like 40% of my email storage now im down to 2%! furthermore, i dun get the spam probs like those using hotmail. ive seen 1 or 2 hotmail accounts and they're spam is like 10 to 20 a day (any hotmail users wanna verify this? heh, im not so sure). come to think of it, wat is hotmail's mailbox size limit? haha if its 100MB or more then i'll shut up heh.
oh ive got a Computing fac account which can store 100MB of anything. its not an email service, jus some virtual storage service. whoo hoo. i can basically backup my important documents on the net la haha. 200MB baby, count 'em.
Baybeats 2004 is upon us once again. for 3 days, the esplanade (ass-pler-nah-dee) will be filled with music (sometimes great, sometimes not) from mainly local acts, with some foreign acts from USA, UK, Japan, and M'sia. im going to catch it again, jus like ive been doing for the past 2 years. anyone wans to join me? ive learned one thing, the bands playing in the afternoon slots arent exactly the better or more popular ones. catch those bands in the night slots. btw, its free admission.

go listen to
The Calling's album,
Two. they've got some good stuff...not every song is a hit la but many are worth listening. i like the way they sound...and btw, the singer's voice hardly matches his looks and physical build...those who've seen him before should understand.
in other news, Defence Minister Ah Teo announced in parliament today that NS for those serving 2 1/2 years will be cut to 2 FREAKING YEARS for those enlisting in dec 04. great. thanks for making all of us feel that we've really wasted 6 months of our lives. damn i think ive been born at the wrong time...if i were a few years younger i would have enjoyed a renovated JC, the option of taking a lower standard of chinese, not having chinese as a criteria for uni intake, increased pay for my whole NS duration and now, a cut in NS duration. he also mentioned that mindef and the unis will be coming up with a new intake scheme to accomodate the new ORD of NS men. wonder if this will affect the girls too. if they push the uni intake earlier by 6 months, that means there wun be any long break for the girls. means no extra income for many of them heh.
as im typing, my cd-rom drive is opening and closing incessantly rite next to my ear and its damn irritating la. i started quite a while ago and now its gotten worse. its like wat u see in horror movies. in the dead of the nite, the drive suddenly opens and closes by itself. yeah. freaky...but i've long gotten over that phase and im now in the pissed off phase...ive pushed the damn drive back many times in frustration. maybe ive not fed it with cds for a long time that's y its sort of complaining to me now..hm...its almost 3am. ahem.
people say wierd things at this hour.

went to the doctor today to check what's wrong with my stomach, as the gastric's been ard for a few days now. i was expecting to hear the usual stuff about gastric after i told her my situation but she concluded that it might be due to swelling of the thyroids. i was like "wat?! thyroids?" she asked me if i had heart palpitations, weight loss, insomnia, and even checked for signs of trembling in my fingers..n i did tremble abit, which got me worried of cos. fortunately, she said it was no cause for worry and that i most prob just have an excess build up of acid in my stomach. if things dun get better after more than a week, then i shld go back for a blood test. woah.
anyway i realised that when i was in hall, i always ate a full supper everynite, ard 1 plus. and now, back at home, i still sleep really late, but the difference is that i dun have much to eat during the late nites. maybe that's y my stomach is still producing all this acid, in anticipation of the food which never came.
sigh, this has screwed up my sleep even tho i tried to get it back on track. i try to sleep the pain off but i wake up really early like 8 plus due to the 'hunger' and i cant go back to sleep. i end up sleeping the whole afternoon away. and of cos that leads to me typing this entry in the wee hours of the morning.
argh my stomach has always caused me problems since young. when will it ever end?
looks like the only cure for me now is Mini Fong Seng.

Thankyewverynice 86.
and now that he has mentioned it, the singer does look gay with his hand gesture and painted fingernails. but not to worry, at least my previous post has justified my sexual standing of being straight (not paedophilic i hope).
86 is like the Dalai Lama of rock man. Just check out his pics
here and u'll know y. yeah he has rocked out so many times that his rocks aren't so hard any more. but still, he manages to rock hard. you know, with his hand...on his guitar, rocking hard away, squeezing and teasing the notes out, pumping every power chord out from his tube amps. yeah..rrraawwk.
erm moving on to a more flaccid subject, i was looking thru the GSS special in the newspapers today and came across an article which featured the Buttercup Coffee in cineleisure, which i mentioned about in my previous post. and if i'm not wrong they used the words 'deliciously-sounding ice cream names like Lavender Honey and Calamansi Sherbet'. yeah deliciously-sounding is where it all ends when it comes to Lavender Honey ice cream.
nothing much more to say..oh im think im having the dreadful notenufftoeatus onlatenitestic gastrictonomus. that would explain y i'm still feeling bloadted. having 2 bloody MINI paus now doesn't help much either. maybe for half an hour? im serious.
ok im gone with my wind that's for sure...

anyway yeah i gotta go now so hello.

watched harry potter today and must say it was quite entertaining..better than the prev 2..i noe many ppl have said that the book is better but ive never read the book, so i dun have many complaints about the movie. neither did i read LOTR, which ppl have also said that the book is better..well i think that's the case for most movies which stem from story books. i read this book by michael crichton last time,
Sphere, and the movie was half as good. i guess they just can't include every detail in the book.
anyway, i'll be watching out for
Emma Watson in the future that's for sure. i can tell u that she will be one hot actress next time man haha. she already looks so good now. just like the Olsen twins when they were younger. but i hope they dun follow in the footsteps of Christina Aguilera who, frankly, just looks like a slut most of the time. but then again, the Olsen twins are showing a little sign of Christina in them, what with their dark eye shadow and frizzled hair. just lose the eye shadow. haha yeah yeah suddenly im like the image consultant. anyway, i dun think Emma Watson will be influenced so much. cos she's British haha.
woah that was quite a lot of talk about actresses younger than me ya?
anyway we settled down at a cafe called buttercup coffee in cineleisure (the one which forces u to make one big detour to get to the 2nd floor escalators from the 3rd floor ones). so i was looking at the ice cream menu and saw a flavour called Lavender Honey. i thot hey that sounds (smells) interesting so i ordered it. it felt like i was eating ice cream in a posh potpourri-scented toilet. after that i was sure i could have become a walking air freshener just by burping or farting man. i also ordered some creamy mushroom pasta which didnt taste all that good either. i guess it justifies the rather cheap price of the pasta - $7.40. go to pastamania if u wan better pasta. so what i'm trying to say is, dun bother too much bout this place hah..they dun even serve plain water..smart move. but hey, dun make me stop u from trying it..they have better ice cream flavours. but if i were u i wldnt wan to try green tea ice cream.
i dunno why i have so much gas in my stomach now (no air freshener jokes pls) and the problem is i can't seem to get it out (no seriously, stop). ah well, maybe it'll go away by tom....

I went swimming again today (like for the 1000th time) and had to be careful and alert (like for the 1000th time) whilst swimming. y? there are a few reasons:
1) the
'move-aside-im-cumming-thru' freestylers who literally jus plough their way thru the water with their heads never looking up, totally oblivious to watever's ahead of them, except for the end of the pool. somehow they jus seem to know when they've reached the wall.
2) the
'PIE/AYE/CTE jaywalkers' who jus love the challenge of swimming thru the paths of like how many? 8 swimmers? and jus like paedestrians on the road, cars (the lane swimmers) have to stop for them. they (the jaywalkers) hardly give a rat's ass. unless they cross the path of the ploughing freestylers. then they collide. haha so fun.
3) the
'wanna play chicken?' lane swimmers. yeah u noe those kind. when ur sort of flanked by 2 other swimmers and have to where else to go, and to your horror u see this guy on a collision course with u. u can almost see a sly smile forming across his face, sort of daring u to stay in lane...so u do cos u feel like 'nobody's gonna push me ard today man' and u look him straight in the eye (googles?) and keep swimming ahead......until......u pause in mid-stroke and end up letting him pass....yeah u lost the fight, paying the price by eating his water bubbles.
4) the
'lets play dead!' bunch of kids (read: bengs) who think that its really fun to meet up one day in the hols to go to the pool and compete to see who can stay underwater the longest. and mind u they dun try to sit down on the pool floor or something..they jus freaking
float with their faces down...yeah like freaking dead bodies.. and like the way all good dead bodies behave in water, they tend to
float aimlessly ard (jus try to imagine tt for a few secs ya?). now u wldnt wan to brush or bump into a dead body while swimming peacefully wld u? i mean come on la if u all wanna suffocate urself then jus take a basin, fill it up with water, stuff u head in it and time urself. then u all can send an SMS
(insert irritating SMS techno song here...YES the 'sending u an S-M-S' one) to ur frens telling them how long u managed to last...IN CHINESE..hell u can even take a freaking picture with ur funky chunky whimsical looking Nokia phones and send and MMS to ur frens, yes with ur head in the water and one hand sticking out in the air trying to focus the shot..tt'll look so cool yeah? like something Ekin Cheng would have done in Young and Dangerous number #.
5) and lastly, something not related to ppl, those wispy white strands of dunno wat floating (not again) in the water..fortunately for me, upon closer inspection (not on purpose, really), it turned out that some of them are flower petals..yes i dunno how they got there..but the longer strands still remain a mystery. if it is wat both u and i think it is (yes think kinky pls), i think tt it wld be more appropriate if it were floating ard at corners rite? but no it was smack rite in the middle of the pool..unless it..drifted there...due to days of not cleaning the pool....argh i dun wan to knoowwww.
yeah, so..haha..btw im not some pro swimmer la..jus making my observations. im a morally upright public pool swimmer. i dun leave white deposits in the pool. i dun do cannonballs too hah.
i jus leave yellow deposits

k was watching a documentary bout the invasion of Normandy by the Allied forces in World War 2. If u all didnt know, today's the anniversary of D-Day (that very day of the invasion). So anyway, the Allied troops came up with this 'floating' tank, with the top half covered by canvas sheets and the bottom half immersed in the water, such tt the Germans wld think it's jus rubber boats in the sea. When the tanks reached the shore, it wld drop its canvas sheets and blow the Germans to kingdom come obviously (tts the idea la, but i dun think it went exactly tt way). But wat an idea. In the midst of war, ppl will do anything to gain the upperhand. One of the forces also built numerous inflated tanks and artillery, jus to fool the opposition into thinking they had lotsa firepower. The mysterious thing is that, altho the tanks were successful in reaching the shores of the 3 other beaches they invaded, they failed miserably only in Ohama beach, where half sank jus a few moments after being deployed in the ocean. I'm not sure wat the reason for that was, cos i was sort of channel surfing by then haha.
But i was thankful i did, cos i chanced upon
So Close. Yeah, the movie starring Shu Qi, Vicki Zao and Karen Mok. Dun go critisizing the plot or acting or anything else related to the making of a good movie, cos tt show is meant only to show off the 3 women. Heh. n i must say, there were quite a number of needless shots of them haha. Like the bathtub scene and one shot showing Karen Mok dressing up to leave the house (i wld have loved to see any of the other 2 dress up tho haha). I watched this show on on a laptop last time, with lousy pic quality, so i obviously enjoyed the show this time haha. Shu Qi is hot man, n Vicki Zao is so damn cute. Karen Mok is...er can do la haha. They shld make more shows like this, instead of shows where Brad Pitt bares his ass...TWICE. I mean come on la, he's alr got enough ass to go around.
oh...MTV's showing
Happy Tree Friends. Whaddaya noe. I tot it wld be one of those Internet things, but apparently it has invaded our TV screens. What next? Cartoon Network? hah k i dun think so.
Right, so that wraps up another eventful day in my holidays.

oh i've discovered a really great band.
The Rocket Summer
They're not actually a band, it's jus one 20 yr old guy writing his own music, AND playing his own instruments. Yes, guitar, drums and keyboards. oh he's cute/good-looking too (no tt does not do anything for me), and thats the verdict from 3 girls. His songs are kinda simple, catchy and poppy sounding, and to quote him,
"The record has a common threading of moving forward in life, realizing mistakes, realizing things with relationships, realizing to try to enjoy life, and realizing that God loves us."
if u ask me, it sounds like he's writing Christian music. But it's not like Hillsongs those kind. Not that i listen to Hillsongs, but im sure its more erm, Christian-y than this?
If there's one thing i wanna do in my life, it wld be this. To record an album and do all the playing myself. That'll be one big achievement man. Dun have to be superbly skilled, jus being able write nice songs wld do it for me. Sigh...writing songs is like writing chinese essay...maybe can start off promisingly, but halfway thru just lose track, and my music 'vocab' is like my chinese vocab haha...and dun get me started on lyrics...i feel like laughing cos i always come up with cheesy boyband lyrics hah.
hm...
Echoboys anyone?

First things first:
It's exactly one year since my last post here!
check out the dates! exciting eh? haha...u dun need to check out the archives to read entries posted a year ago. hah anyway, no i didnt plan to start again after exactly one year. i jus suddenly thot of starting my blog again, since it's the hols anyway and im always reading others' blogs. Surprised that blogger didnt shut down my blog or something heh.
Well, ive given it a makeover, but most of u reading this wldn't know wat my old blog looked like anyway. lets jus say the old one was a template straight from blogger and with some colour changes here and there tts all. heh u can hardly find those kinda blogs anymore.
Man it took me a long time jus to search for a nice skin. the girls have all the luck u noe? there were so many groovy skins i wld have used if i was a girl. And not forgetting all the cutesy templates with stars, and puppies, and fairies, argghh. i totally agree with Nat when she said tt guys' blogs are usually boring hah. Jus look at mine for a good example. But, watever. im happy with it.
So here's to a new chapter in eugene's blogging life, maybe lasting 2 months or so? and then i'll take a hiatus when term starts all the way to one year from now..hahah.
Dun look at me like tt, tt's wat happened the last time i blogged.
