today i was jus reminded bout y i do not like clubbing music. was at hall bash and some dj was playing electronica/house music with tribal beats. and being a non-clubber, i cldnt see how anyone cld dance to the same beat for like half an hour. i swear the beat was going dub-dub-dub-dub for tt long, without any change in tempo, and the songs were so seamlessly joined to each other that i didnt even knew the song changed...not tt thats a good thing mind u, it jus felt all the more monotonous...oh and tts if u cld even call it a song...

well i did go to the floor cos we figured it was better than jus standing in one corner waiting for the music to change. i wasnt getting my hopes up bout the music changing cos the dj jus came on like half an hour ago..and one dj usually specialises in one style of dance music...so tt was gonna be it all the way man...i tried my best to bop (i wldnt call it dance...and also cos i cant dance) to whatever the dj was spinning...but jus got bored after like 3 mins...i looked ard and tried to comprehend how others cld enjoy themsleves or not feel bored..maybe they had alot of dance moves...but nope...most of them were jus bobbing ard too, arms at the sides, legs jus shifting weight from one to the other, head nodding to the beat. i must admit tt mambo is much easier to bop to, and more enjoyable too, cos at least i noe the songs and i can scream the words together with everyone else. but how ppl manage to put up with hearing the same song and doing the same moves (for the regular clubbers) week after week jus escapes me. oh and getting high on alcohol too..but tts another story altogether.

after a while i my attention jus strayed to the conga playing guy on the stage...quite good man..his hands flying all over the place..and he was playing non stop for as long as the music went on. was glad that we were called out from the floor after bout 10 mins..yes...10 mins was more than enuff to feel like uve been stuck with a broken record player.

others may get their fix from clubbing and getting high...me? jus give me a good jam session anytime and ive got my fix rite there. 2 hrs, 3hrs, 4 hrs...as long as my ears can take it. its full of spontaneity and variety, and i get to build rapport with my fellow musicians. well i guess u cld say the same bout clubbing...it being such a social event... but then again, jamming does not involve puking, half-dead frens, embarassing moments or flaring tempers. it does involve blistered fingers and ringing ears tho haha.

or jus give me a live rock gig.

oh blues is cool too heh..

i had a great birthday yesterday, save for the test i had in the afternoon, which was quite tricky..but after checking with frens, im glad to know tt i had some questions correct haha.

tgio was damn fun, playing outdoors gives a much greater kick than playing in the dining hall or the mpsh. the sound was excellent (cept for some vocals being a little soft), the lighting was good, the atmosphere was lively - when we were playing Always, the crowd lighted sparklers...not even Baybeats had sparklers man haha...all in all an enjoyable performance. the biggest cock up of the nite must go to Tze. we were supposed to make a grand entrance, with joyce on the keys, while the others entered one by one, picked up our instruments and then launch into the first song. but as tze walked out to his place, he realised he had forgotten to bring out his effects pedal. so wat to do? start without him, as he went back into the band room to get his pedal. damn tak glam for him to join us halfway while we were playing la. but his solo went fine fortunately, unlike last time when the pedal gave up on him during his solo haha.

had a pleasant surprise when they started singing happy birthday with ah neh and yan presenting the erm brownie-cake...in front of the whole hall....quite paiseh la haha..the brownie rocks man...thanks both of u! (hm but i think ah neh did most of the baking...heh) oh and thanks to keith, sarah, rachel, ben, ivan and jo for the tee shirt. i like it alot! haha...added a new colour to my boring collection of dark blue, red and black tops haha.

tgio was followed by the mandatory after-performance supper, but since beer garden closed down, we ordered pizza and bought beer and hung out at the rooftop. had my own bottle of heineken thanks to quek and cj...who claimed tt i must be a man and drink on my birthday hah. and so all of us were eating and drinking at the rooftop, when slowly, the a blkers started streaming in...tts it la. i immdiately recalled what happened to dominic last time...i was part of that crowd haha....k shit this can't be good...the rockers were practically rubbing their hands together and salivating dammit. quek was such a great fren as to forgo sleeping early jus to catch the action....and so it all started after prabs brought in the cake, thanks dude. anyway i shall cut short what ever happened next and jus say that i fortunately didn't get the same treatment as dom...but tt's not to say tt whatever happened wasn't traumatising. eh miss wei where's my straws...5 ah....got another nice tee from yan, ah neh and ah boo. thanks once again! hoho getting a mini wardrobe makeover man. thanks to all the others who came up last nite: ah soh, marge and the other a blkers...and whoever i missed out while i was blindfolded haha.

thanks everyone. i enjoyed myself.
