everyone's getting lazy or too busy to blog nowadays, including me. im losing the motivation and to blog and im also starting to not see the point in blogging haha. oh well....the least i can do now - and do i shall - is to blog about the penang trip, albeit briefly since i came back a week ago. but there's a good reason for this u see...cos our dear xinli has made a superb effort in recounting in detail, every single day of our stay there, from departure to arival back in singapore. and wats more, its chock full of pics (as with most of xinli's posts) of the beautiful scenery and the beautiful people (those who went on the trip, not the penang citizens heh).

so here's my take on penang:
1. the shopping scene - things may be cheap, but try as we might, we cldnt find anything to buy. even the girls hardly bought anything..so i guess that says quite abit. either that or it says quite abit bout the girls haha. seems like the higher social echelon in penang congregate in one shopping mall called Island Plaza. the shops there are like those in any mall in singapore. surf shops, sport shops, coffee places, even a fitness centre. the people who visit that place are in stark contrast to most of the people u come across in the street. well dressed and made up, they looked like a class above the rest. some of the girls we encountered over there were quite hot too haha. another nice mall was Gurney Plaza. that was bigger and more popular than island plaza and there were alot of teens and middle aged shoppers who looked less wealthy but still were well dressed. the mall in the city centre, Komtar, is catered more to the working class citizens, and tt was also were we tried hard to find things to buy but turned up empty handed haha. i guess its best described using analogies: Island Plaza is like Metro Paragon, Gurney Plaza is like Tampines Mall/CompassPoint/Harbourfront Mall, and Komtar Mall is like Lucky Plaza haha.
2. the food's good and cheap - well most of it...got ripped off a couple of times, with regards to the price and also the food - the bak kut teh didnt have any bak in the soup. other than tt, the food rocks.
3. public transport's a bitch - there was only one bus servicing the road outside our service apartments, and the frequency was 30 mins intervals. it didnt help tt it was a rickety non-airconed bus. ok that was me showing my spoilt brat side. but hey, these factors do make a difference in travel options and visiting various locations. we thus opted to go for cabs most of the time. heck it was so cheap anyway haha.
4. the beaches are great - clean, empty, nice fine sand, unobstructed view of the sea - without unsightly tankers/cruise liners/misc vessels lining the horizon ala any beach in singapore. the waves were a little too rough for pleasure tho. we went in the early afternoon, and had the whole stretch of beach to ourselves, so we proceeded to splash water and one of us *looks at xinli* decided 'hey y not throw SAND instead?'. after that we buried her hah, revenge is sweet. we also made a stupid sand mound. haha kids, we all.

right so in the end that was kind of a long post. but anyway i believe a picture says a thousand words, so for all u pic whores, check out xinli's posts.
